TIGEROAR

Clemson University's All-Male A Cappella Group

auditions

Think you have what it takes to be in TIGEROAR?

TIGEROAR holds auditions at the beginning of every semester. Our next auditions will be Tuesday, August 28, at 6:30pm in Brooks Center Room 117.

Callback auditions (by invitation only) will be held on the following Thursday, August 30, at 6:30pm in Brooks Center room 117.

Auditions will consist of two rounds: the preliminary auditions and the callbacks. During the first round of auditions, we will test your singing range, do some pitch matching exercises, and then the floor will be yours to sing a verse and a chorus of a recognizable song of your choice. If you make it to the callbacks, we will teach you one of our songs and have you sing it with us, and then once again the floor will be yours to sing a solo song of your choice.

In order to receive a callback audition, you must receive a simple majority vote from the current membership of the group. In order to gain membership in the group, you must receive a unanimous vote from the current membership of the group.

All members of TIGEROAR are required to be male students enrolled at Clemson University with a cumulative GPR of at least a 2.0. They must also be members of one of the larger choral ensembles, Clemson University SINGERS (MUSC 3700) or the Men's Chorus (MUSC 3720).

Frequently asked questions

What will I have to do at auditions?

Auditions will consist of two rounds: the preliminary auditions and the callbacks. During the first round of auditions, we will test your singing range, do some pitch matching exercises, and then the floor will be yours to sing a verse and a chorus of a recognizable song of your choice. If you make it to the callbacks, we will teach you one of our songs and have you sing it with us, and then once again the floor will be yours to sing a solo song of your choice.

What song should I sing for my audition?

Anything. Really, anything. Pick whatever song you feel most comfortable singing. Here are a couple of things to consider: pick a song that is going to show off your singing ability and your range, and pick a song that you could see TIGEROAR singing. Also, please prepare only a 60-second verse and chorus of a song. We'll know what we need to know after hearing just that!

What is the time commitment of tigeroar like?

We regularly rehearse on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6:30pm to 7:45pm, and we have a retreat at the beginning of every semester. We typically have about one performance a week, and a major concert towards the end of every semester. In the couple of weeks before the major concert of the semester, we typically will rehearse almost every night of those two weeks.

Most guys in the group would agree that it is easy to balance TIGEROAR with school work as well as other things you are involved in, however TIGEROAR certainly takes up enough time to keep you busy and involved in something on campus.

DO I receive any kind of academic credit for being in Tigeroar?

Yes! TIGEROAR (MUSC 3410) is a one credit hour academic class.

Do I have to be in any other ensembles in order to be in Tigeroar?

Yes. All members of TIGEROAR are also required to be members of one of the larger choral ensembles, the Clemson University SINGERS (MUSC 3700) or the Men's Chorus (MUSC 3720). If you are not already in one of those ensembles, you can still audition for TIGEROAR, as long as you plan and are able to join one of the groups should you be selected to be a member of TIGEROAR.

SINGERS has auditions every Fall before classes begin, and the Men's Chorus is unauditioned. SINGERS rehearses Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 11:15am to 12:05pm, and the Men's Chorus rehearses on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30pm to 1:45pm. Both are excellent musical ensembles and your membership in one or the other does not affect your audition. TIGEROAR has about half of its members in SINGERS and the other half in the Men's Chorus, and a couple of members in both! To learn more about the Clemson University SINGERS or the Men's Chorus, visit the Clemson Choirs website.

How many spots do y'all have available?

We always try to have at least 12 members and no more than 16 members each semester. All current members of good standing are able to stay in the group without re-auditioning, so it depends on how many current members we already have, and the talent that shows up to auditions. Some semesters we may take several new members, where as other semesters we may only take one or two, or even none at all.

is it hard to get into tigeroar?

Auditions are typically very competitive, however the atmosphere is very relaxed. In order to receive a callback audition, you must receive a simple majority vote from the current membership of the group. In order to gain membership in the group, you must receive a unanimous vote from the current membership of the group.

Can I audition again if I don't make it?

Yes! As a matter of fact, you should! Many current members, including those in leadership positions, auditioned multiple times before making it into the group.
